Child's First Dentist Visit

Picture Of Girl Smiling Because Of Excellent Dental Care - Creating Dental ExcellenceThere are a few things you can expect at your child's first dental visit. The hygienist will show your curious toddler all of the instruments that will be used and then take a peek at the baby teeth that have already developed. You will receive instruction on which foods to avoid, such as sodas and sugary desserts. The dentist will go over proper brushing and what milestones you can expect over the course of the next year. Parents are then welcome to ask questions, such as what to do about thumb sucking.

When to Take Your Child to the Dentist

We recommend parents begin bringing their children to our office around their first birthdays. Cleanings and evaluations twice per year will follow as preventative care, and to spot any potential cavities before they have a chance to become more serious issues. Once your son or daughter falls between the ages of 4–6, X-rays will be performed at the visits. This helps the dentist spot cavities and any misalignment of the teeth.

Reasons to Take Your Child to the Dentist

First, a deeper cleaning can be performed in the office that will reach areas you can't get at home. Second, the dentist will be able to recommend additional procedures that will help your child in the long run, such as having sealants placed over permanent molars. Third, your child will learn from a young age that the dentist's office isn't a scary place and that the doctor will keep his or her smile looking its best for years to come.
